Goal four of the SDGs is aimed at “Achieving Quality and Accessible Education for all” whereas that of the goal six is “Clean Water and Sanitation for All”.

Twenty – Eight schools in all participated in the competition from the group stages with four qualifying through the various stages to the finals.

At the Grand Finale, the students were given a special research project to do on the topic: “Your community has been filt-laden. Devise means by which waste can be properly managed and disposed of to ensure a clean environment”. The competition was keenly contested from day one especially the challenge project.

The four schools that contested at the Grand Finale were:

  1. St. Charles Prep. & JHS
  2. Joehans Academy
  3. S. Sowah Boye Memorial School, and
  4. New Generation School.

After the presentation of their research findings in the full glare of the public, media, academia and the distinguished panel of judges that scrutinised their works, S. Sowah Boye Memorial School emerged top. They won the competition with their research on the community of Chorkor, a suberb of Accra. New Generation School came second, Joehans Academy third and St. Charles Prep. & JHS fourth respectively.

The winners took home cash prize of GHC 1,000.00, a new flat screen desktop computer, a trophy, certificates and book prizes. The first runner up took away GHC 500.00, a desk jet printer, certificates and other book prizes whereas the second runner up took home GHC 300.00, a desk jet printer, certificates and other book prizes with the third runner up garnering cash prize of GHC 200.00, a laser jet printer, certificates and book prizes both for students and teachers.

The competition was great, impactful and transformational. Next year promises to be more greater, bigger, wider and better by the Grace of God.
